Competency model

Competency model (competency system) is a basic HR tool designed to combine all company personnel management tools in a coherent and logical way.

When do I need a competency model?

  • During recruitment and selection – competency descriptions provide basis for developing a detailed candidate profile and tools for recruitment and selection. Competencies are clear guidelines for assessing the level of candidates’ competencies.
  • During adaptation of new employees – competency model is a great source of information for a new employee about company’s expectation and criteria for the assessment of behaviours, attitudes and performance. For this reason, this tool is very helpful in affecting the new employees’ attitudes.
  • When assessing employees – competency model is a basis of audits (AC/DC) and employee appraisal systems (180° and 360° feedback).
  • When defining career paths – competency model may be used to precisely define criteria for transition between positions and vertical promotions.
  • During training – competency model is a foundation for defining competency deficiencies, based on which proper directions and forms of development may be planned.
